2024 Framingham Classic Riesling
A very dry Winter lead into an unsettled Spring, with some late frost events. The vines responded by growing with less vigour than usual, until early Summer, which provided excellent conditions for vegetative growth.
The dry summer really started to become evident in January, with prudent irrigation becoming crucial to maintain vine health. The weather in February continued to be hot and dry. Come harvest, the temperature dropped significantly, and the rain stayed away, creating perfect conditions for fruit ripening.
WINEMAKING
Fruit for the ‘Classic’ came from all five Riesling blocks our Estate with picking dates falling between the 20 March and 15 of April. The flavours that we are looking for on the vine for this style are that of orange citrus and stone fruit.
Each parcel was handpicked and whole bunch pressed to allow for gentle extraction. Juices were predominately fermented in stainless steel tanks with a small portion fermented and aged in acacia barrels and sandstone vessel which add a textural quality. All components were held on full ferment lees without preservative to allow the wine to ‘live’ for around five months prior to being blended and bottled.
TASTE
Aromatics are reminiscent of mandarin, wet stone and savoury elements. A signature bees wax note is subtly showing also. Complex mineral palate, with orange citrus and stone fruit flavours held together by good line of juicy acidity and an elegant texture.
FOOD MATCH
Beautifully matched with spicy Asian dishes, fresh seafood, pork and any white meats. The perfect food match wine.
